The problem

The market doesn't
wait for your maths.

The market moves fast. Prices change between stalls. You buy two paints of something instead of one. Someone offers you a deal. Your paper list can't keep up, and neither can mental maths.

Most people only find out they overspent when they get home and the money is gone. By then it is too late to make a different decision.

MarketRuns is a live shopping companion. You plan the list before you leave, then work through it stall by stall. Every entry updates your total instantly, so you always know exactly where you stand.

Prices are never what you wrote
You planned ₦6,000 for tomatoes. Seller wants ₦9,500. You adjust, but now everything downstream is wrong and you are recalculating on the spot.
Mental maths while haggling
Two paints at ₦9,500 plus a basket of spinach at ₦3,200 plus transport, while a seller is waiting on you. Something always slips.
You only find out at the end
You budgeted ₦50k. You spent ₦73k. By the time you count it at home, there is nothing left to do about it.

"I used to come home and just accept that I overspent. Now I know before I leave the market what I've spent and exactly where it went. My madam stopped questioning my receipts."

"The part where it groups by market section is genius. I go to four different sections at Oyingbo. Now I just check off each area as I go. Nothing gets forgotten."

"Tomato price was ₦3k more than I expected this week. Old me would have panicked. New me adjusted my other items and still came home under budget."

About

What is MarketRuns?

MarketRuns is a free shopping companion app built specifically for people who do regular market runs in Nigeria. A market run is a shopping trip to a traditional open market — places like Oyingbo in Lagos, Wuse Market in Abuja, or Eke Awka in Anambra — where you buy fresh produce, grains, proteins, and household staples in bulk. Prices are negotiated, not fixed. Quantities are measured in local units like paint, mudu, de rica, or basin. The experience is fast, noisy, and nothing like a supermarket.

The app works as a Progressive Web App (PWA). You open it in your phone browser at app.gomarketruns.com, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. It installs like a regular app, but there is no App Store download and no account required. MarketRuns works completely offline once installed, so there is no need for mobile data while you are shopping in the market.

Before your market run, you plan your list by grouping items the way the market is physically laid out. You set a budget, add items with quantity, unit, and estimated price, and the app calculates each item total for you. At the market, you enter what you actually paid as you go. Your total updates in real time. When you are done, you see a full breakdown of planned versus actual spend, and you can share it via WhatsApp. MarketRuns is free to use with no subscription and no hidden charges.
